Day 3 (Part Two): Acts 10 - Peter and Cornelius - Mt. Carmel - Seminarian Practice Homily

---------------------
Acts 10 "Peter and Cornelius
---------------------

No doubt, Caesarea holds an excellent display of Roman ruins, but there are Roman ruins to see in many, many places.  What makes Caesarea so significant.  Why did our tour guide call Caesarea a "must for every Christian to see?"  Again, as alluded in our earlier post, if what occurred at Caesarea wouldn't actually have happened, then you and I would not be Christian's as we are today...

LOOK-UP:  Acts 10:34-43 "Gentiles Hear the Good News"

...It was in the location of Caesarea that Peter understood the Vision that he received the evening prior in Joppa on the roof of Simon the Tanner...

"And Peter opened his mouth and said:  "Truly I perceive that God shows no partiality, but in every nation any one who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him."  Acts 10:34

...soon after Peter declared to the man named Cornelius, the centurion living in Caesarea, while in his home...

"Can any one forbid water for baptizing these people...?" Acts 10:47

Thus, it was precisely in Caesarea, this location, that the first non-Jew became Christian.  On the other hand, without this occurrance in Caesarea, there would only be Palestinian Christian's or Christian's who were Jewish by blood.

Mt. Carmel (near Hafia)

2 - 6:30 PM:  We arrived to Mt. Carmel by coach.  Among many well-known associations and people is the Prophet Elijah and the account of his activity at Mt. Carmel.

LOOK-UP:  1 Kings 18:20-46

After arriving we had lunch provided by the wonderful hospitality of the Carmelite Sisters.  After bringing our packs to our guest rooms here men were free to rest, move around outside and in, and to pray in the many chapels.

Seminarian Practice Homily
----------------------

6:30 PM:  Evening Prayer as a group in chapel.  First practice homily delivered by a seminarian.  Just about every evening from here on out a seminarian will present a practice homily from a select Scripture passage that he has spent the Fall semester researching in Fr. Juan Miguel Betancourt's course on Prophetic Literature.  Tonight was started off strong by Kyle Kowalcyzk on Isaiah 40:1-8.  Tomorrow Charles Mugabi will deliver.
